JACKSON (Classical Guitar, Flamenco Guitar)
MILES JACKSON is one of New Zealands most accomplished guitarists. He began his musical training on the violin, changing to classical guitar in 1965. He has studied with a number of distinguished teachers and several periods in Spain have allowed him to explore and develop considerable expertise in Flamenco techniques. An intense period of study with world-renowned Czech guitarist Vladimir Mikulka took place in the summer of 1982. This was followed with three years of study with the English master guitarist John Mills, which has provided Miles with a technical facility and musicianship of the highest standard.
He has been working as a professional musician since 1972. Apart from solo performances, he has performed with many different chamber music groups and has been a member of the John Mills Trio and the Delphinos Guitar Duo. However most of his work has been with violinist Margaret Jackson as Duo Jackson. They have toured and given workshops in many countries , made numerous TV & Radio broadcasts and recorded 7 albums of their music.

KATE SHERWOOD
Kate moved to New Zealand from the
UK where she studied with James Tennant for five years. She
began teaching during that time, moving to Nelson in 1996.
Kate performs regularly with the Nelson Chamber Orchestra, the Nelson String Quartet and various other groups.
She teaches beginners through to Grade 7 cello.
LISSA COWIE
Lissa Cowie was born in Scotland and emigrated to New Zealand in 1989. In 1996 she gained a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at Auckland University studying cello. She then studied at the Royal Academy of Music and graduated with a Postgraduate Performance Diploma and LRAM teaching diploma.
Since then she has worked as a free lance musician based in London, then Glasgow and now Nelson, performing with several ensembles including the City of London Sinfonia, National Symphony Orchestra of Scotland, Scottish Festival Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and Opera della Luna. She also played with the Elgin Piano Trio, set up while at the RAM in 1997 which gave many concerts in the UK. The trio was awarded a scholarship to attend Banff Arts Centre, Canada, for one month in 2001. They have also performed the Beethoven Triple Concerto and made a CD of Dvorak Dumky Trio and Haydn Gypsy Rondo Trio.
Lissa taught cello and chamber music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Jordanhill School and the Douglas Academy.
Now based in Nelson, she performs with the Grampians Piano Trio, Emanon String Trio, Nelson Symphony Orchestra and Viva Chamber Orchestra and as soloist with the Nelson Chamber Orchestra. She also teaches through the Nelson School of Music.

Veronica is a qualified, registered teacher at the primary and Early Childhood level and has currently received her ARSM in instrumental teaching of the clarinet. She teaches the beginners clarinet class at the NSOM and students from Girls College, St Josephs and Central Schools as well as privately from home. Veronica is a member of the Nelson Symphony Orchestra and an active member of their committee.

CHRISTOPHER
PIERSON
Chris is an experienced
drum teacher and performer. He commenced playing whilst
at school and has playing professionally since 1986.
Chris has studied with David Jones at the Sydney Conservatorium
of Music, with Frank Gibson Jnr, Lance Philip, and John Taylor
in London. He has attended a host of drum clinics with
international drummers such as Louis Bellson, Greg Bisonnette,
Don Famulargo, Trilor Gurtu, and Elvin Jones. Chris
has toured with Tom Sharplin and the Cadillacs and is in constant
demand as a drummer in the Nelson music scene. He is a drum
tutor on the Contemporary Music Performance Course.

flute at the age of twelve. At fifteen he began piano and
continued to study both instruments. This study culminated

SARA LEACH
Sara is qualified in the Suzuki method of flute tuition, and has taught many students from as young as four years of age over the past 21 years using this unique method which is modeled on the same natural process each child goes through in learning their native language. This method is easily adapted to suit all ages. Emphasis is on beautiful tone and musicality. Students learn to play by ear, as well as learning to read well.

a professional concert violinist for over 30 years, teaching,
recording and performing throughout the world. She believes

played with the Wellington Sinfonia and the Canterbury Trust
Orchestra.

Barbara Grant is the director of Soundworkz (www.soundworkz.co.nz). She is a classically trained singer wtih 30 years experience. Barbara also has an extensive background in business change consultancy improving team dynamics. An ex-principal consultant with KPMG, she is expert at making positive change happen quickly and effortlessly.
Barbara has completed major assignments for Telecom NZ, Henderson Global Investors, AMP, Adecco, NBNZ, ANZ, Barclays UK, Cable and Wireless UK and many government ministries including Foreign Affairs and Trade, Education, Housing and Inland Revenue.

Joe’s vocal
training and musical career encompasses a broad range of styles
and contexts. Classically trained in New York he has held
principal singer/actor roles in the Broadway cast of the hit
musical Grease and in other rock musicals on national
tours of the USA. He has worked as a pop recording artist
signed to RCA Records in Europe and has recorded extensively
as a studio session vocalist on record, video and commercial
jingle dates.
In addition to his
work with bands he has had 15 years of experience as a solo
performer (vocal/keyboards) and has trained as a recording
engineer.
Formerly head of vocal and song writing programmes at the
School of Creative Musicianship (SCM) in Auckland and instructor
with the Voice Works Institute in Los Angeles, he has also
taught music in public schools and for three years was Vocal
Tutor of the Nelson School of Music’s
CMPC course.
He teaches a practical
and concrete vocal technique geared to pop/rock/jazz and other
modern genres but applicable to any style. Prevention of injury
and maintenance/recovery of a vital, healthy vocal instrument
are emphasised. In the last several years, Joe has been studying
psychotherapy, both formally and informally, and now offers
and incorporates cutting-edge therapeutic Breath and Voicework
in his teaching, where appropriate, to those who desire a
different preliminary approach to removing barriers to free
expression.
