Brett's guitar playing is well known in the region as he is the frontman for his own Mister Nobody jazz quintet which performed in the Nelson Jazz Festival 2010, as well as being hired for many national festivals and high profile events. Mister Nobody have released a CD of modern jazz originals called "Over The Top" this year. Brett also performs on both guitar and bass, as well as vocals for Nelson's the blues band Ubercat, which launched at Winterfest 2090. Brett was guitarist for two iconic NZ musicians who performed in the region, Midge Marsden and Sharon O'Neill. Brett is also releasing a CD called Pieces Together with his original acoustic instrumentals in 2010. Brett has been teaching more than 65 students ranging in age from 7 - 55 per week for 3 years at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, Nelson College for Girls, Garin College and at his home studio, after 10 years' performing and teaching in Australia. He is a prolific song writer through many musical mediums. Brett has studied with and toured with Tommy Emmanuel in several Australian tours. Brett's teaching serves to help musicians be well-rounded in playing for pleasure or performance.

Prior to moving
to Nelson Rebecca taught guitar privately and at schools and
with the Ministry of Education classes in the Horowhenua District.
Rebecca graduated from the Contemporary Music Performance
Course
in 2007.
She enjoys teaching
students from age five to adults in a variety of musical styles.
Lessons include musical knowledge with an emphasis on performance.

Miles has been teaching
and playing Classical Guitar professionally for over 30 years.
During that time he helped found the New Zealand Federation
of Classical Guitar Societies, of which he was President for
five years. Miles has tutored at and directed many music schools
and has been associated with the Nelson School of Music since
1981. His strongest quality is the teaching of technique.
A priority for Miles is to bring students together to make
music in enjoyable ensemble situations and to perform as often
as possible. Besides training in Classical Guitar with some
of the world’s great players and teachers, Miles continues
to explore other music styles, and has made several trips
to Spain to study Flamenco Guitar.

KATE SHERWOOD
Kate moved to New Zealand from the
UK where she studied with James Tennant for five years. She
began teaching during that time, moving to Nelson in 1996.
Kate performs regularly with the Nelson Symphony Orchestra,
the Nelson Chamber Orchestra, and the Nelson String Quartet.
She teaches beginners through to Grade 7 cello.

Veronica is a qualified, registered teacher at the primary and Early Childhood level and is currently working towards her ARSM in instrumental teaching of the clarinet. She teaches the beginners clarinet class at the NSOM and students from Girls College, St Josephs and Central Schools as well as privately from home. Veronica is a member of the Nelson Symphony Orchestra and an active member of their committee.

CHRISTOPHER
PIERSON
Chris is an experienced
drum teacher and performer. He commenced playing whilst
at school and has playing professionally since 1986.
Chris has studied with David Jones at the Sydney Conservatorium
of Music, with Frank Gibson Jnr, Lance Philip, and John Taylor
in London. He has attended a host of drum clinics with
international drummers such as Louis Bellson, Greg Bisonnette,
Don Famulargo, Trilor Gurtu, and Elvin Jones. Chris
has toured with Tom Sharplin and the Cadillacs and is in constant
demand as a drummer in the Nelson music scene. He is a drum
tutor on the Contemporary Music Performance Course.

Dr. John Thomson (Violin & Viola)
Born in England, John Thomson moved to NZ where he studied violin with David Nalden. He went to the USA in 1985 as a Fulbright Scholar and with a Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship to study violin with Robert Davidovici and to gain Masters and Doctoral degrees in Violin Performance. He has also taken courses at the Julliard School and at Indiana University and was the first prize winner of the 1987 Fort Worth Concerto Competition.
Thomson has taught at several universities and has been at the University of South Dakota since 1994. Several of his students have won prizes at competitions, and former students can be found throughout orchestras and teaching positions throughout the world. Thomson is also in considerable demand as a conductor, and had led groups on both costs of the USA and throughout the Midwest. Since 2002, Thomson has served as the Music Director of the Sioux Empire Youth Orchestras. He has been several times featured in Who’s Who in America’s Teachers, most recently in 2006.

Dawn graduated from
Auckland University with an Executant Diploma in Music, followed

played with the Wellington Sinfonia and the Canterbury Trust
Orchestra.

Jason was born in Wales, UK and gained his Master of Arts Degree in Music from Oxford University, England where he was awarded the prestigious organ scholarship at Balliol College. After Oxford he continued his vocal and opera studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and also in Europe with singers and teachers such as Carlo Bergonzi and Nicolai Gedda.
He has performed throughout Europe, N. America and Asia in recital, oratorio, concert and opera. As a company member of Lyric Opera of Chicago Jason has sung in over 1000 performances with some of the top opera singers, conductors and directors in the profession. He has sung in over 60 operatic productions with singers such as Kiri Te Kanawa, Placido Domingo, and Renee Fleming with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Sir George Solti and Jesus Lopez-Cobos, and directors including Peter Sellars, Sir John Cox and and Sir Peter Hall.
Jason enjoys teaching and coaching classical/operatic repertoire as well as the lighter concert and Broadway styles. As a keyboard player, both piano and organ, Jason accompanies and coaches both singers and pianists as well as enjoying choral directing and conducting.

Pamela studied with
Astra Desmond (Lady Nearne) and Flora Neilson at the Royal
Academy of Music, London, and lieder at Convent Garden. She
has also studied with Hilda Beal and Ilse Wolf at Morley College,
and with Lola Rodrigues and Felix Lavilla in Madrid.
She has broadcast many concerts in Europe and has twice been
a place getter in the Mobil Song Quest. Pamela has been a
vocal tutor at the Nelson School of Music since 1984, providing
both individual and group tuition.

Joe’s vocal
training and musical career encompasses a broad range of styles
and contexts. Classically trained in New York he has held
principal singer/actor roles in the Broadway cast of the hit
musical Grease and in other rock musicals on national
tours of the USA. He has worked as a pop recording artist
signed to RCA Records in Europe and has recorded extensively
as a studio session vocalist on record, video and commercial
jingle dates.
In addition to his
work with bands he has had 15 years of experience as a solo
performer (vocal/keyboards) and has trained as a recording
engineer.
Formerly head of vocal and song writing programmes at the
School of Creative Musicianship (SCM) in Auckland and instructor
with the Voice Works Institute in Los Angeles, he has also
taught music in public schools and for three years was Principal
Tutor of the Nelson School of Music’s
CMPC course.
He teaches a practical
and concrete vocal technique geared to pop/rock/jazz and other
modern genres but applicable to any style. Prevention of injury
and maintenance/recovery of a vital, healthy vocal instrument
are emphasised. In the last several years, Joe has been studying
psychotherapy, both formally and informally, and now offers
and incorporates cutting-edge therapeutic Breath and Voicework
in his teaching, where appropriate, to those who desire a
different preliminary approach to removing barriers to free
expression.

JANE WINTER (Vocal/Contemporary,
Jazz, Musical Theatre)
Bachelor
of Performing Arts (Singing and Dramatic Arts) NASDA
Jane commenced vocal
studies with Pam Sims and then studied with Luisa Shannahan,
Vernon Midgley, Juliet Midgely and Elric Hooper at NASDA,
(Christchurch College of Education) where she gained the Bachelor
of Performing Arts degree in singing and dramatic art. She
is a practicing professional singer working extensively around
the Nelson region. Jane has had singing and dancing roles
in a number of musical productions including “Little
Voice”, “City of Angels”, “Trial by
Jury”, ”Guys and Dolls”, “Anything
Goes”, “Chicago” and “Me and My Girl”.
She recently performed at the Eureka Jazz Festival in the
USA with the Bourbon Street Beat band.
