The Nelson School of Music has signed a partnership agreement with the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology which will see the NMIT providing new music programmes from next year (2008).

Subject to approval, the Nelson School of Music’s Contemporary Music Performance Course will now be delivered as part of the new Certificate in Arts and Media (Contemporary Music) from 2008. A new Diploma in Arts and Media (Contemporary Music) will also start in 2009.

The Nelson School of Music has been in existence since 1894 and is seen as the musical heart and soul of the community. We are proud of our history and the continuing provision of Musical Education in Nelson: We have an auditorium of world-class standard; a successful Winter Festival held annually; a large variety of music tuition is available for individuals and groups.

The School also offers opportunities for musicians to develop their skills to perform in pubs, restaurants and wineries – a feature of the Nelson region’s expanding cultural tourism scene.
